Rhem | Rhem 3 - The Secret Library | Rhem 2 Map

Welcome to the Rhem2 walkthrough. Just like its predecessor, Rhem, this game is one gigantic puzzle. Sometimes the clues will be obvious from the start, others will make no sense until much later and at other times you wil be searching for an elusive clue in order to move on. As when you do solve each piece of the puzzle, whole new locations become available. And just like Rhem, you will often revisit the same locations more than once, but good thing is you will not have to walk quite so far!

One of the most useful tools is your compass that appears when you hover over the bottom of the screen. North is the white point. The Rhem 2 Manual has a very confusing set of instructions regarding the east and west compass points. In this walkthrough, I use the traditional compass directions: north up, south down, west left and east right. If the north arrow points left then you are facing east. If the north arrow points right then you are facing west. If the north arrow points down then you are facing south.

But if you do get lost, here is a map:

The Seven Pointed Star | The Tower Cavern | The Underground Railway | The Crystal Cavern | Collecting the Artifact

The Seven Pointed Star

The game begins with an introduction from Zetais and your collection of the first part of a 7-pointed star. You jump into a train and begin a journey into Rhem. When the train stops (after a trip down and round the corner), turn right, pick up the swipe card and turn round. Get the card out of your inventory (at the bottom of the screen), swipe and the door will open. Go straight on and climb the ladder on the left. Open the door and enter the Arrival Center.

The Arrival Center

Press the button on the video screen and Kales will explain a little about the mission.

Turn left and go into the next room. Note the 9 buttons with three conduits going through the wall. Press the buttons if you like. Turn left. Note the two scales on the thermometer. Turn about and go into the next room. Opposite are three houses. Turn left, forwards and left again into the corner room. On the wall is a dial that shows 5 colours when you press the button. On the left is a locked cabinet connected to 3 conduits.

Turn about and note the cabinet and the blue and orange conduits. There is a little (broken) clock next to it. Leave the room and examine the moon photos on the notice board. Turn each one over and note the syllable on the back. Turn right and go into the far room. Turn left and note the scales on the rule. Examine the moon photos on the desk. Turn each one over and note the syllable on the back. Turn round and note the camera and instructions on the wall. Note the control panel on the wall next to the door and the route of the orange conduit.

Moon Picture Room

Leave the Arrival Center and climb back down the ladder. Face the train and follow the path along the tracks to the crossways. Turn left, go forwards and note the numbers on the panel on the right. Examine the hatch with the 12 buttons round the outside (clock positions perhaps?). Turn round, go north into the tunnel and turn left at the junction. Follow the path to the door. Turn left and note the numbers on the panel. Open the door to the Moon Picture Room using the lever. Note how the door opposite closes when this one opens. Once inside, turn left, note the moon picture and the lock on the right of the door. Press the button and you will hear something open. Turn round and note the oval mechanism on the wall. Press the button and you will hear something open. Leave the room and make your way back to the crossways.

Hydro Electric Plant

At the crossways face west and follow the tracks to the path on the right. Open the door and keep going to the end. Turn right and walk forwards until you see a cabinet on the wall on the right. Press the button and note the numbers. Press the button to close the cabinet. Turn right, go forwards then left into the tunnel. Note the closed cabinet on the left. Forwards to the control panel. Press each button and note the number that is displayed for each moon position. Link the number to the syllable for that position (for example: top-right, 4 = gwa). The number 6 syllable you will get later.

The Revolving Door

Make your way back to the crossways and turn left (north) into the tunnel. Turn right at the junction. Follow the path and go through the door. On the left is a gate with an oval mechanism. Follow the tunnel to the right until you see a ladder. Press the button and a square button appears. Press the square button and the door rotates. Press the round button to send the square button back up. Walk through to the other side of the Revolving Door and keep going to the end of the tunnel. Note the numbers on the panel.

Turn left and go forwards. The door is locked but note the control panel on the left and the rotating disc on the right. Back to the tunnel, forwards once and duck into the small opening on the right. There are 5 blocks with pins that connect to the control panel you have just seen. There is a '3' hanging off the right hand block. Note the positions of the pins and the routing of the conduits. Back to the tunnel and forwards twice to the next opening on the right. The door is locked. Note the 5 blocks, the position of the pins, the route of the conduits and the control panel.

Back up the tunnel to the Revolving Door. On the right is a closed cabinet. Press the button next to the Revolving Door until a ladder appears. Climb up. Press the button on the wall and something opens. Take the west exit, go round the corner and press the button on the wall. The gate from the lower level rises. Back to the Revolving Door. Press the button until a hatch appears in the east side. Open the hatch and note the figures printed inside (4. 10:00, 5. 2:00, 6. 5:00).

The Thermometer Tunnel

Press the button again until the ladder appears on the north side. Down the ladder and turn to face the chest. Recall the rotating disc you saw at the end of the long tunnel?

Match the symbols on the disk to the dials on the chest and press the symbols until the grey squares are in the same position as the arrows on the rotating disc (10:30, 3:00 and 9:00). Grab the handle to open the lid. Pick up the numbers and note the position of the holes on the back of each one.

Turn right and go forwards. On the right is an oval mechanism. Press the button on the wall and something opens. Turn around and examine the safe.

The word 'gwalinwessu' is made up of 4 syllables, three of which you know from the moon photos. From the control panel in the Hydro Electric Plant you will have matched syllables so you can guess that 'wes' = 6. Turn the word into numbers: 4, 1, 6, 5. Press the button to open the safe and take the blue segment.

Turn right and follow the tunnel to the end. There is a thermometer that measures the temperature of the lava. Note the symbols, you saw them last in the Arrival Center.

Back up the tunnel and look through the window... Go to the Revolving Door. Press the button and walk through to the other (south) side. Climb up the ladder and note the formula. Press the two buttons, something opens and you hear a ping (remember seeing these coloured conduits before?) Climb down the ladder and go down again. Follow the tunnel to a metal door. Note the coloured symbol on the door.

The Energy Rooms

Make your way back to the north side of the Revolving Door. Turn round and press the button until the ladder appears. Climb up and press the button to revolve the door. Climb down the ladder on the east side and go into the tunnel. Note the open cabinet on the wall. Lift up the lever. Walk down the tunnel to the second opening on the left. Match the numbers from the chest to the pins. The two of the numbers (2 and 8) have identical pin patterns. Go round to the control panel on the other side of the wall and program in the numbers, there are 4 possibilities: 32296, 32896, 38296 or 38896. Open the door and go inside. On the right is an electrical control panel. Note the temperature of 412. Next to the door is a power meter and the note with b = 4. The window overlooks the lava pit. Note the control panel that lowers the thermocouple into the lava and the symbols indicating the depth.

Leave the room and walk up the tunnel to the other locked door. Match the numbers from the chest to the pins. Turn round to the control panel on the other side of the wall and program in the numbers: 71450. Open the door and note the control panel that swaps the thermometer for the thermocouple. On the left is another formula. Leave the thermometer over the lava pit for now.

You need to make your way to the tunnel with chest in it (up the ladder, revolve the door and down the ladder on the north side). Follow the tunnel to the thermometer.

The thermometer in the Arrival Center had a scale ratio of 1 to 1.5. This means you need to measure a temperature of 618 (412 X 1.5). Press the down button until the upper gauge reads 618. Note the lower gauge reading of 106. Press the top button to lift up the thermometer.

On your way back up the tunnel, note the oval mechanism on the left. It now has a target with an angle of 135 on the inner ring. Up the ladder in the Revolving Door and press the button to rotate the door until the ladder appears in the eastern side. Down the ladder and along the tunnel to the first energy room. Press the button to position the thermocouple over the lava pit. Go to the other energy room.

The rule in the Arrival Center had a scale ratio of 1 to 3.5. This means you need to measure a depth of 371 (106 X 3.5). Press the down button until the gauge reads 371. Turn to the control panel and press the circuit breaker. You will hear an electrical crackle and the gauge by the door should now read 100%.

Back to the Revolving Door. Press the button and cross over. Go straight on and climb the ladder. Press the button and something does down. Behind you are some stairs that lead to the Elevator Image Room - you can do some exploring if you wish. Back down the ladder, turn round and note the coloured dots on the image on the wall. Face the gate and lift the lever. Climb the ladder, press the button and the gate goes back up. Down the ladder and through the Revolving Door. Turn round, press the button and climb the ladder. Along the corridor and note the angle of 45 and the red ring on the gate. Back down the ladder again, press the button and go through the Revolving Door. Make your way back via the crossways to the Arrival Centre.

Arrival Center 2

Examine the three houses. There are three windows lit. Match these windows to the numbers you have been collecting. Go into the room on the right and enter the numbers 10, 2 11 into the control panel. Exit the room and go to the key box at the other end. Press the button, collect the key and note the missing moon photo. Back to the room at the other end of the complex. Use the key on the wooden cabinet. Note the formula, number sequence and colour code. Turn left and go to the room on the far left. The cabinet on the right is now open. Note the numbers (1. 8:00, 2. 7:00, 3. 1:00). Turn left and press the button. Note the colour sequence. Turn round and go into the room next door and face the panel with 9 buttons. Press the buttons to match the number sequence from the diagram in the wooden cabinet. Press the buttons in the order of the colour sequence from the dial and using the positions from the diagram in the wooden cabinet. Get it right and a bell chimes and something opens. Back to the room with the dial and the cabinet on the left is now open. Pick up the second blue segment and examine the map.

Map

Moon Picture Room 2.

Make your way back to the Moon Picture Room via the crossways. Turn round and put the two blue segments into the panel on the right of the door and it will open. Down the ladder and follow the tunnel to the metal door. Open the latch and note the pattern of dots on the image. Back up the tunnel and leave the Moon Picture Room. Close the door behind you! This is really important!

The Clock Door

Make your way to the crossways. Turn left (south) and examine the round hatch. Using the clues from the hatch on the Revolving Door and the cabinet in the Arrival Center, press the buttons in the order: 8, 7, 1, 10, 2, 5 (counting clockwise from the 12 o'clock position) . Now press the central button and the hatch will open. Climb down and follow the tunnel to the end. Press the button to open the door, go inside and close the door behind you. Close the switch on the left of the door and turn right. Open the cabinet and press the buttons until the colours match all those you have seen:

Tunnel Code

Turn right, press the button and the door in the tunnel will open.

The Mission Room

Back up to the clock door and, across the crossways and follow the tunnel round to the right to the Revolving Door. Go through, turn round and press the button. Climb the ladder, rotate and down the ladder on the north side to face the chest. Rotate the door again and climb down the ladder at the far end. You will be able to follow the tunnel this time to the Moon Picture Room. If you closed the door before you left the last time you can get into the room on the west side. On the left is a button that opens something. Note the oval mechanism. Turn right. Open the cabinet and note the numbers painted backwards. If you can see them it's because you didn't close the cabinet in the Hydro Electric Station. Turn right and note the pattern of bars on the control panel. Do the sum and program the numbers into the control panel: 4,8,4.

When the door opens, go inside, close the switch on the right and listen to the next message from Kales. Turn left and press the button to collect the second piece of the 7 pointed star.

The Angle Panels

Leave the Mission Room and walk back via the tunnel to the Revolving Door. Go through, turn round and press the button to get the ladder. Go up, rotate and down the ladder on the east side. Turn round, rotate and follow the tunnels to the crossways. Face east and go to the Hydro Electric Plant. In the tunnel the locked cabinet is now open. Pull up the lever. Walk back to the crossways. and from there to the Revolving Door. Go through, rotate, up the ladder, rotate down the ladder on the north side. Rotate and take the tunnel to the Moon Picture Room. Into the back room and note the angle of 270 and the red ring.

Back through the tunnel again to the Revolving Door. Go through, turn round and press the button to get the ladder. Go up, rotate and down the ladder on the east side. Turn round and follow the corridor to the ladder on the right (do not exit the building).

Climb the ladder, turn round and go down the stairs. Follow the path (don't turn down the tunnel on the right) and into the Elevator Image Room. Turn left and pull up the lever. Turn round and examine the diagrams on the wall - they explain how the elevators work. Turn right and walk back to the Moon Picture Room - you don't need to use the tunnel, take the easy route through the door. In the Moon Picture Room, turn right and note the angle of 225 and the red ring.

The Elevator Cavern

Head back to the Revolving Door building, term left, climb the ladder and go down the stairs. This time do not go to the Elevator Image Room, instead take the tunnel on the right (heading north). When you emerge from the other end of the tunnel take a good look around. The elevator at the end of the path is B. The elevator to the left is A and the one on the right is C (on the other side of the broken bridge). You are on the Upper level and if you look at your compass you will see that you are on the south side of elevator B. We can therefore define each elevator by its level, location and name. You are currently at upper-south B. Your job is to get to Upper-South C (where you can see the exit door). To do this we need to unlock the door on the lower south side of C, get C on the lower level and A on the upper level. That way, there is a path from upper-south A, to lower-south B and from there to the exit door at upper-south C.

Elevators

Press the arrow to call elevator B. Enter upper-south B. Press the button to go down. Exit and examine the panel on the right. Remember those angles you have been uncovering? Set the panel as follows: top: 225, right: 135, bottom: 270, left: 45. Press the button and a bell chimes (unlocking the door on the lower south side of C).

Close the door to elevator B and press the button to send it back up. Turn round and go to lower-north C. Press the button to call the lift, enter and go up. Exit and go to upper-north B. Enter and go down. Exit and note the locked door on the right. The power cable heads off to a balcony that you will get to much later. Go to lower-north A. Inside and go up. Exit and go to upper-south B. Enter and go down. Exit to lower-north C. Call C. Go back to B and go up. This time, follow the tunnel round to upper-south A. Go down and follow the path to a door with a red button. If the door is locked then you didn't set the angle panel properly. Through the door and into lower-south C. Go up and exit.

Examine the exit door to the cavern. Note the note with a = 5. Power is provided through the yellow conduit from the Energy Rooms. On the left is a cabinet with slots for the three parts of the 7 pointed star. Open the door and climb down two sets of ladders. At the bottom is a control panel.

The 7 Pointed Star

Time to do some maths. Recall the three formula and the notes: a = 5 and b = 4. Work out the solutions to the formulae and enter the solution into the control panel: x = 9, y = 7, z = 2. Turn right, press the button and take the last piece of the 7 pointed star. Climb back up the ladders and place the three parts of the star into the cabinet on the left of the door. Climb down the ladders and press the button on the left to open the golden door.

The Tower Cavern

In front of you is the tower grotto. You are on the second level. Go forwards into the tower and climb the stairs to the top level.

Tower Level 4

Take the south exit and press the button to open the blue door. You will see a Revolving Door that blocks your way.

Take the north exit and press the button to open the blue door. Enter the hallway. On the left is a bagatelle. Pressing the button releases a ball. There are 8 pathways and 3 colours giving 24 outcomes. For example: left, left, right and green light. Note the pathway and colour of the last ball that you release.

Turn round and go to the lift opposite. Press the button to go down, exit and lift the latch to unlock the blue door. Go back up in the lift and take the corridor to the right. Through the wooden and green doors and note the fuse box at the far end. There are also 3 switches on each side of the corridor that you need to be aware of. On your way out, close the green door. Leave the hall and go down to level 3.

Tower Level 3 and the Crystal Cavern

Take the north exit. Press the button to open the door. Inside on the right is an air vent. Open the vent and pick up the key. Turn left, and step into the train. Turn left to see the control and tunnel. You are in the east station. The door on the right leads to the Crystal Cavern and the number 3 crystal. Take the train to the next station.

South Station. The door on the right is barred - have to find another way in later. The room on the left has three control panels that power up the crystals in the cavern. Take the train to the next station.

West Station. The door on the right leads to the number 1 crystal. The room on the left has 4 control panels. Three have symbols, screen and button. The fourth just has a screen and button. Press the button on this panel once, twice and three times in succession, note the symbol and number of chimes. Take the train to the next station.

North Station. The door on the right leads to the number 2 crystal. The room on the left has a simulation on the left, a circuit behind the doors with a bit missing and a set of symbols on the right. You can experiment with the simulation if you like but without the missing bit of the circuit you cannot solve the puzzle. Take the train to the next station.

East Station. Exit the Crystal Cavern and go to the south exit of the tower. Open the blue door (you unlocked it when you came down in the elevator). At the end of the tunnel, look up to see something on the bottom of the elevator. Go down the ladder and into the Blue Grotto.

Tower Level 2 - The Blue Grotto

In the Blue Grotto, note the 8 cyphers on the walls. There seems to be something on the roof but it is too dark to see.

The north exit has a locked cabinet and two control panels.

The east exit has a locked door with a control panel on the left. Note the conduit coming down from the bagatelle on level 4.

Go to the west exit and lift the latch to exit the Blue Grotto.

Climb the stairs to level 4. Take the north exit and enter the hall. Take the elevator down to to level 3. Exit and climb down the tower to level 2. Take the north exit and enter the blue Grotto. Go to the south exit, climb the ladder and look up. Note the sequence of numbers marked on the bottom of the elevator. Back down the ladder and go to the east exit. Press the button in the same order as you noted from the image on the bottom of the elevator:

Grotto Door

Open the door and climb the ladder. At the far end note the conduits coming down from the fuze box on level 4. You need to work out how to set the contacts to build a circuit to power up the blue grotto. Note also the panels with coloured numbers. There are eight of these scattered around Rhem and each represents one of the bagatelle pathways.

The other panel will help you to solve the simulation puzzle in the Crystal Cavern. Leave the Blue Grotto and go down the stairs to level 1.

Press the button on the right and a bell chimes and you get a yellow light.

Remember the chimes you heard when you pressed the buttons in the west station:

Cross: 1 chime

Curve top right and bottom left: 2 chimes.

Curve top left and bottom right: 3 chimes.

These tell you what the sums and products of the rows and columns in the simulation equal.

You need to do lots of maths by following the instructions on the circuit board. This will give you the result: cushion = 7, cross = 8 and star = 3. Click here to see how I did it.

Back in the train and go forwards 3 stations (west station). Enter the code numbers into the three panels and open the door.

The Glass Maze.

Step into the glass maze. You will need to copy the diagram on the right and keep a sharp watch on your compass if you are going to negotiate the maze. If it all goes wrong, there is a reset button on the left wall.

Using the diagram as a guide, label the rooms as follows:

Door Buttons

Turn round and collect the fuse from the cabinet.

Return to room C.
From C go to G L K F E A. Face south and close the door.
From A go to B C G L K F E J N R S T U. Face north and close the door.
From U go to T S R N J E F K O P. Face north and open the door.

From M go to Q P L K F E. Press the blue button to open the door.

The Light Barrier Puzzle.

Enter the light Barrier Cavern. Go left or right and pass through any of the light barriers. Note the symbols next to each of the doorways:

Lasers

Remember the 12 patterns you saw in the little room that overlooked the foyer? They were associated with the clock positions 1 to 12. In the tunnel underneath the foyer you saw 12 pairs of patterns where (for example): N was opposite a reversed N. Associate the patterns from the tunnel to the clock positions thus: 1 = C = L.

Using these clues, you will be able to associate a clock position with each of the symbols next to the doorways: 1 - L, 2 - N, 3 - U, 9 - X, 10 - Z, 11 - H, 12 - C.

Press the button next to the doorway at the north end (C) and note the sequence that is generated. The cabinet in the end room will open revealing the next blue segment.

You need to go through the doors in the same order as the generated sequence. So for example, if the sequence was: 9 1 2 10 3 11 12 then you need to go through the doors in the order: X L N Z U H C.

Cross through the C barrier and collect the second blue segment. If the cabinet closes then you didn't follow the sequence. Press the button and try again.

Return to room E in the Glass Maze.

The Blue Grotto.

Climb the tower to level 2. Take the north exit and enter the Blue Hall. With the clues collected you can now program the control panels in the north exit.

Remember all those panels with lines you have been seeing? Using the pathway and the coloured light of the last ball you rolled in the bagatelle you need to work out which number relates to that ball:

LLL LLR LRL LRR RLL RLR RRL RRR
Red 13 9 6 14 11 2 23 8
Blue 16 22 15 1 18 24 5 20
Green 4 3 10 21 7 17 19 12

Face west and press the buttons until you get to the correct number. If you haven't got a pathway and colour programmed then you will need to go up to level 4 and do so.

Leave the room. The ladder on the left leads to a little room with a keyhole and a sliding door. Climb back up. The last door holds the elusive artifact. Press the button on on the right. Enter the room and examine the map on the wall. The ladder leads to another sealed room. Exit and close the door. Press the button on the left and you end up stuck. Bang on the doors until the lady in red appears. Can't understand a word but she does take your swipe card and give you a coin.

Put the Artifact on the round holder and the camera will deliver a picture for you. Put the picture in your inventory

Warning. Do not try to pick up the Artifact just yet as for some reason the inventory will not show one item. Go back to the video screen and slide the picture into the slot. Listen to the message and turn right. Press the button and your train will be delivered.
